"I will do everything I can to ensure the safety of visitors and local residents"

In a statement, Kensington MP, Emma Dent Coad said: “While we await police updates on this incident outside the Natural History Museum, where a car appears to have driven into a crowd of visitors, I would like to send heartfelt best wishes to those injured and to witnesses.

“We also owe our thanks to the public who bravely intervened to help the injured, as well as to our first responders at the scene.

“I can only imagine the terror experienced by those on Exhibition Road, and by the staff at the V&A, Natural History and Science Museums.

“The area attracts tens of thousands of visitors at weekends, including children. They should be able to feel safe while they are visiting our cultural and educational centres.

“By chance I was in the exact spot this happened on Wednesday after a visit to the Director and staff at the V&A.

“It would be a huge shame if changes to our public realm, made to improve pedestrian experience, has instead made people more vulnerable.

“As more information is made available, rest assured that I will do everything I can to ensure the safety of visitors and local residents in Kensington.”
