An astronaut has taken this stunning image of London at night from the International Space Station.

The photo was captured by NASA’s Robert Shane Kimbrough on Sunday (March 19), and features major landmarks including Wembley Stadium , Tower Bridge and the O2 Arena.

He shared the photo on Twitter with the caption “Good evening London from @Space_Station!” It has since been retweeted more than 3,000 times.

The image, taken from an altitude of 250 miles, also includes Hyde Park, Regents Park and Battersea Park, which all appear as dark patches in amongst the brightly lit centre.

The Thames can also be clearly seen snaking its way through the capital.

The former US Army Colonel is currently part of the Expedition 49/50 mission along with Russian cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Andrey Borisenko.
