A popular website founded in west London which gives people access to sports facilities has launched a new app service.

MyLocalPitch, which began in 2014, offers people the chance to search and book spots to play sports on including football, tennis and netball.

It came after the football team of co-founder, Jamie Foale from Parsons Green, were left with no pitch to play a competitive game on.

Their usual spot near Royal Hospital Chelsea was not available, leaving his side scratching their heads on where to play.

This sparked the birth of MyLocalPitch and last month the company launched a new iOS app.

Mr Foale, who has been a Fulham FC season ticket holder for eight years, said: "As an 11-a-side team we were stranded and had to find a new venue.

"We realised that other industries have all been really inventive in booking and there was no reason why that can't be applied to sports facilities."

The 31-year-old estimates the company now has around 70,000 users in London alone.

The app, he believes, will now make it easier for people to access sports facilities from their mobile devices.

Users can use geolocation to explore facilities in their area, before placing a booking online.

Mr Foale added: "Our philosophy is making it simpler to get involved in grassroots sports and our latest app promises to significantly enhance people’s sporting experiences.

"More people engaging with grassroots venues will deliver direct health benefits for players and facilities alike."
