Politicians came together to promote local independent shops on Small Business Saturday .

Chelsea and Fulham MP Greg Hands visited One One Five in Fulham along with the government’s Business, Innovation and Skills minister Sajid Javid .

Mr Hands, who is also Chief Secretary to the Treasury, was at the ladies designer clothes boutique One One Five to mark Small Business Saturday.

The business in Wandsworth Bridge Road has been running since May 2013 and is owned by Pippa Ellis and Caroline Bamsey.

Speaking to Getwestlondon afterwards, Pippa said: “The aim of Small Business Saturday is to try and persuade people to shop small as opposed to going to some of the chain stores. It’s a way of attracting the local community to shop with us.”

Discussing the by the MPs, she said: “We talked about business generally and the current climate, how we found it and how difficult it was for retailers.

“We’ve been going two-and-a-half years and it is a battle. But for someone to show support and see what we do on a day we are trying to promote small businesses is hugely welcome and very much appreciated.”
