An MP has offered prizes to shoppers supporting Small Business Saturday tomorrow (December 5).

Brentford & Isleworth MP Ruth Cadbury wants people to take selfies at firms in the constituency and tweet them to @RuthCadbury or post them on her Facebook page .

Whoever takes the best photo will get tea and a tour of parliament with her and a representative from the business pictured.

A bottle of wine and a box of chocolates will go to the runner-up and third place entry, respectively.

Ms Cadbury said she hoped the contest would get people talking about local businesses and help promote the best small firms in the area.

"Small businesses are so valuable to our local economy. Town centres in Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth, Osterley and Hounslow all have a range of small businesses set up and run by local people," she added.

"From shoe repair shops to chocolate makers, these businesses do a brilliant job meeting residents’ demands and play an important role in the area."

Small Business Saturday, which takes place on what is said to be the busiest shopping day during the Christmas rush, started two years ago in the UK to encourage people to support their local companies.

Ms Cadbury said she had been doing her bit to support local businesses by visiting the South Street Café in Isleworth to sample their extensive range of handmade ice creams, including Christmas pudding and brandy butter flavour.
