One of MP for Ealing and Acton Rupa Huq's former teachers has spoken about her delight on the constituency's result.

Susan Hamlyn, who taught Ms Huq drama said she is all the more pleased in terms of the context in which she gained her seat.

Ms Hamlyn said: "Everyone else has backed Tories but we have backed Labour in Ealing.

"Rupa was one of three sisters at the school (one of them being TV personality Konnie Huq). She is from a high achieving family all of who put in a lot to the school while they were there and were good members of the school community."

Ms Huq's former drama teacher and now labour party member said she remembers from what colleagues have said that the MP was hardworking and conscientious during her days as a pupil.

Ms Hamlyn, of Ealing, said she expects Ms Huq to be an excellent MP and mentioned the fact the latter has always been local adding to that.

Ms Hamlyn taught at Notting Hill and Ealing high school until 1983.

Rupa Huq claimed the seat from the Tories with a majority of just 274, promising “to represent all of you”.

The candidate won the seat with 22,002 votes, previously held by Conservative Angie Bray who received 21,728 votes.
