A crash involving a motorcycle and a van has closed the A41 Wellington Road in St John’s Wood.

A man in his 20s, believed to be the driver of the motorbike, was taken to hospital with serious head, chest and pelvic injuries after the incident in Grove End Road.

There was queuing traffic in both directions between the Circus Road junction and Swiss Cottage at 9.45am this morning (Apr 09), BBC Travel News has reported.

Police are diverting traffic and bus routes 13, 46, 82, 113 and 187 are on diversion.

The collision has also affected traffic in Grove End Road between Waverley Place and St John’s Wood station.

A London Ambulance spokeswoman said: "We were called just before 9am to reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a van in Grove End Road.

"We sent a responder in car, one ambulance crew, the London Air Ambulance and a duty officer.

"Our staff treated a man, reported to be in his 20s, for head, chest and pelvic injuries. He was taken as a priority to the major trauma centre at St Mary's Hospital. He was in a serious condition and was escorted by the London Air Ambulance doctor in the road ambulance."
