From day trips to dinner time, mothers love spending valuable time with their children.

But what if the time you spent looking after them was exactly that – valuable?

Apparently, if motherhood was a paid role, the average mum would earn a whopping £84,388 each year.

That is in a similar wage bracket as GPs, pilots, and top lawyers.

The wage estimate was published by Bidvine.com, an online services marketplace, which has produced a calculator for UK parents to work out how much they could be getting paid for parenting.

They surveyed 1,200 UK mums and found out how many hours they dedicate to looking after their kids.

The survey found that, on average, every day they spent up to four hours cleaning and tidying, two hours preparing food and one hour cleaning clothes, as well as being on call 24 hours a day.

On top of this, 44% of households said they had a pet, with two-thirds of mothers from this group saying they handle everything with the animals – including feeding, bathing and walking.

Also, 74% of mums felt they carried out most household jobs and 67% said they felt almost completely responsible for their children.

Russ Morgan, co-founder of Bidvine.com, said: “We wanted to highlight just how hard mums work.

“We’ve also built the calculator so that other mums or dads can see how much they could be earning as a bit of fun.”

Anyone dedicating hours of their day to child care can find out how much they would earn using Bidvine's online calculator.
