The most violent inmate in west London was involved in a shocking number of attacks while behind bars last year.

A prisoner who is being held at Feltham Young Offenders Institute (FYOI) in Feltham assaulted his fellow convicts on 10 occasions in 2014, while four others were recorded attacking other prisoners nine times each at the jail.

The exclusive figures from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) revealed the top five prisoners in the Feltham prison were involved in a total of 46 attacks on other prisoners, compared to 12 in Wormwood Scrubs near White City, another west London prison.

Only three facilities in the country had inmates who joined in fights with their fellow prisoners more frequently.

The other main type of violence behind bars is assaults on staff.

MoJ figures showed a Feltham inmate took part in five attacks on workers at the institution last year.

Two others joined in with assaults on staff four times each at the facility, and another two on three occasions each, bringing the total number of attacks on staff in the Feltham prison to 19.

In Wormwood Scrubs prison, five inmates attacked staff on two occasions each in 2014 - or a total of 10 assaults on staff.

Last year, data showed Feltham was one of the most violent prisons in the country.

It ranked second highest for the number of assaults on both staff and prisoners in 2014.

The MoJ said that it's possible that more than two people could have been involved in fights.

A recent report found one in five Wormwood Scrubs prisoners fail random drug tests and another report described the prison as one of the worst in the country with cockroach-infested cells.
