It may come as a surprise - or it may not - but a majority of passengers had no complaints about the security screening process at Heathrow Airport.

Trinity Mirror's data team have looked at statistics from the Department for Transport to determine the most annoying things about airport security at the west London airport.

According to the figures, people were most irritated by the slow airport security process (6%), followed by the hassle of having to remove their shoes (4%).

However, 75% of travellers said nothing annoyed them, up 1% from 2013.

These statistics place Heathrow in an unusual position as it was the only airport out of the five major UK airports - also including Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester and Luton - where those surveyed did not list queuing as being the most annoying part of airport security.

In fact, only 3% of travellers found queuing unsatisfactory at the west London airport, whereas the other four airports found queuing was the least satisfactory part of the screening process.

Overall queuing times at Heathrow dropped last year with the number of people having to wait for longer than 10 minutes falling from 16% in 2013 to 13% in 2014, the same as levels in 2010.

Overall satisfaction rates for airport security at Heathrow stood at 93% in 2014, the same level as it has been for the previous three years.

Other figures for Heathrow showed 3% of people were annoyed by the security restrictions to liquids, 2% by staff attitude and politeness, and 1% each for intrusive checking of bag, staff handling during bag search and body search.

It seems the annoyance factors for people passing through airport security are related to the hassle of the process rather than the principles of being searched, with a minority of people claiming the screening process is an unnecessary infringement on their privacy.
