The most dangerous roundabout in west London - and the third most unsafe in Britain - is in Hounslow.

The heavily used Hogarth roundabout, in Chiswick, is an accident hotspot, with 43 road accidents reported here between 2010 and 2014, during which 49 people have been injured.

The recent figures from the Department for Transport, compiled by getwestlondon's data team, also revealed Hounslow had the most roundabout crashes in 2014 with 86.

The second west London roundabout to enter the top 10 in Britain was the west side of Lambeth Bridge, in Westminster, in joint sixth place with 34 accidents and 35 people hurt.

The remainder of the five most dangerous roundabouts in west London were: Willow Tree roundabout, in Hillingdon, which recorded 17 accidents and 21 people injured; Hammersmith & Fulham's The Boulevard Imperial Wharf, which was responsible for 15 accidents and 16 injured people; and Goldhawk Road and Stamford Brook Road, 13 accidents and 15 people hurt.

Year-on-year data showed a big jump in crashes at roundabouts in west London from 225 in 2013, to 281 by the end of last year.

The worst roundabout in the country is also in London, just outside Elephant and Castle train station, in Southwark, which has seen 59 accidents.

The number of road accidents in Britain rose for the first time in a decade in 2014 with 5.9% more accidents than in 2013.

However, the number of accidents on roundabouts has outstripped this increase with 9.8 more crashes in 2014 than in 2013.
