Plumes of thick black smoke were seen after a fire ripped through an industrial estate on Friday (June 19) evening.

More than 70 firefighters and 10 fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze on Marsh Road in Alperton.

A large stack of pallets and a heavy goods vehicle were damaged in the fire.

An alarm was raised by security guards at the site at around 7.30pm.

At the height of the blaze, firefighters from Southall, Ealing, Acton, Park Royal, Wembley, Northolt and Chiswick fire stations were putting out the flames.

The fire was under control just before 10pm.

Station manager Rodney Vitalis who was at the scene said: “Firefighters worked quickly to protect the other vehicles that were in the yard and moved six HGVs and one forklift truck out of harms way.

"The alarm was raised by security guards who noticed flames and called the brigade."

There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
