A new initiative in Hillingdon will see £100,000 invested in CCTV cameras across the borough as a way of tackling fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.

The 25 new cameras will be capable of capturing high definition images in low light and will be put up in selected “hotspots”.

In 2015/16, there were 7,267 incidents of fly-tipping reported in the borough, despite offenders risking 12 months in prison and a fine of up to £50,000.

“It's a crime that blights peoples lives and we're determined to identify and prosecute those who do it, as well as curb other forms of nuisance behaviour," he said.

“That's why we're investing in these new cameras – to help keep our neighbourhoods clean and safe for residents.”

Cllr Mills added: “The camera will be integral to our investigations, helping us capture the highest quality evidence we can. And being mobile, we'll be able to move them to wherever they're needed the most.

“My particular warning to would-be fly-tippers is this: we're using every tactic we can to catch you in the act, including the latest CCTV technology.

“Please dispose of your rubbish legally or face the consequences.”

Across there country there were almost one million fly tipping incidents in 2015/16 and a clean up cost of nearly £50million.
