A manhunt is under way after a woman had a gold necklace ripped from around her neck by a robber on a moped in Southall.

Police in Ealing are appealing for witnesses to the robbery that took place in Townsend Road, Southall, on Friday July 10 at around 7.30am.

The 54-year-old woman was walking along Townsend Road, towards Beaconsfield Road, when the suspect on a moped pulled up behind her and grabbed a gold chain from around her neck.

The suspect then made off towards The Broadway, Southall, police said.

The moped was described as dark in colour and the rider was wearing a black helmet and short-sleeved top.

No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue.

To reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime, police are advising that members of the public do not wear expensive chains on display if you are walking or keep jewellery hidden.

A police spokeswoman said: “Don’t make yourself a target for others. Be aware of your surroundings, stay alert and look around you.

"As a precaution, photograph your jewellery as a record for insurance purposes.

"If you are involved in or witness an incident please call 999 immediately. Invest in a personal alarm. DO NOT try to fight back or confront any offenders.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Ealing CID on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
