School pupils have raised money for a charity which helps vulnerable children from around the world.

The students at Ark Burlington Danes Academy in White City raised £609.96 by holding a Cultural Gala for the local community and a ‘Colours of the Flag’ day, which saw them dress in the colours of the flag that represents their background.

The Student Council, which is made up of representatives from every class in the school, then met to decide which charity should receive the money.

And it chose School in a Bag, which helps poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children throughout the world.

The money raised by the school will help pay for everyday school items many take for granted, such as pencils and rulers, being placed in 40 bags that will be delivered around the world.

Pupils from the Wood Lane school invited the charity’s school liaison officer Lis Foy to Burlington Danes and presented her with a cheque. She brought bags with equipment for the pupils to help pack.

She later said: “It was lovely to meet positive young people who are committed to making a difference to the world around them.

“I came away from the school with a lovely warm glow and I am looking forward to working with the students and staff in the future.”
