Images of a man wanted in connection with an arson attack on a student residence in Cricklewood were released by Barnet police on Tuesday (October 10).

The fire broke out at Middlesex University halls of residence, Ivy Hall, in Cricklewood Lane on August 9.

The fire was started at around 6.30am when a dark coloured coat was set alight at the base of an air vent at Ivy Hall.

There were no injuries but minor damage was caused to the building.

CCTV released by police shows a man wearing a dark coloured coat, in Cricklewood Lane minutes before the fire started.

What appears to same man was captured on CCTV without the coat watching the fire burn.

The man is described as white, of slim build, aged in his mid 20s with short brown hair.

He appears to have a deformity to his right arm, and may be missing one or more of the fingers of his left hand.

Police urge anyone who knows the identity of the man in the images to call them on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
