The Metropolitan Police has completed its move from its iconic New Scotland Yard home of nearly 50 years.

Its new headquarters, at the Curtis Green building at Victoria Embankment, will retain the name New Scotland Yard, ensuring the historic name is still connected with the Met.

The building at 10 Broadway, which was home to London’s police force for 49 years, was handed over to the new owners on Monday (October 31) following a £370 million sale, which was agreed upon in December last year.

The move is one of the biggest transformation programmes in the Met’s history, with the relocation to the smaller building reportedly saving an additional £6 million a year in running costs.

It is part of a programme to help cut Met Police costs by £391m.

The Curtis Green building is owned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and has been empty since 2011.

Speaking last year, commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, said: “Selling 10 Broadway and moving our headquarters to Curtis Green is allowing us to reinvest in our remaining estate and in the technology we need to support our officers as they fight crime and support victims.

“It is only with this kind of intelligent investment that we will be able to do more with less.

“The MPS is focused on providing a more modern, efficient, secure and cost-effective estate, ensuring we remain at the forefront of 21st century policing and getting more officers out on the streets, cutting crime, cutting costs and providing total care for Londoners.”

The new building will retain the iconic revolving sign outside New Scotland Yard sign, along with the Eternal Flame and Roll of Honour.
