A weather warning has been issued across London as wind and rain moved into the capital after the Bank Holiday weekend.

With June just around the corner, summer felt a million miles away as the Met Office issued a weather warning today (May 31).

It has issued a Yellow warning for rain, warning a band of heavy and thundery rain spreading westwards which will turn torrential in places. Cold winds will also pick up and add to the misery.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “A thundery low over the continent will pass close to the southeast of England, bringing a band of rain with it. This is likely to contain thundery elements and locally very intense rain, bringing the risk of 20mm in the hour and more than 60 mm in a few hours.

The rain is forecast to stop in the afternoon but the low temperatures (highs of 14c) and dark clouds will remain for the day, with the occasional shower expected in the evening.

The weather will improve during the week, with the rain clearing away and temperatures gradually rising to a pleasant 21c on June 5.

It comes as a contrast to the warm weather London enjoyed during the Bank Holiday .

Despite the dank conditions, the weather was worse in April, when an unexpected tumble of snow dusted the capital (see video below).
