Crime recorded in Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith and Fulham has risen over the past 12 months, Met commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has said.

There has been an increase of 5.9% (1,140 offences) in K&C and 3.2% (657) in H&F, compared to an average increase across London of 4.1%.

The figures looked at offences recorded between September 2015-2016, and compared it to figures from September 2014-2015.

They were presented by the Met chief at a Commissioner’s Q&A Roadshow at the Vue cinema in Westfield, and included a breakdown of types of crimes.

Stand-out figures in Hammersmith and Fulham show a big increase in thefts of motor vehicles, and a fall in thefts from person.

In K&C there was also a significant drop in thefts from a person but a sharp rise in theft from a vehicle.

Sir Bernard said the H&F rise in theft of a motor vehicle was down to thefts of mopeds, which were then either sold on, broken up for parts or used in crime.

And he said the general trend of rising crime was down to more accurate reporting, as well as new offences such as cyber crime and revenge porn.

He was speaking at a Q&A session for residents in Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea.

During the event he also revealed a 15-year-old was disembowelled at the Notting Hill Carnival.
