A blaze in Marylebone has been brought under control by firefighters on Thursday (May 18) afternoon.

Six fire engines were called to deal with the flames, which took hold of the fourth floor and roof of a building in Upper Wimpole Street, just before 12.30pm.

Crews from Soho, Paddington , Kentish Town, North Kensington and West Hampstead were at the scene, and had the flames under control at around 2.30pm.

London Fire Brigade ’s 999 control officers received more than 40 calls reporting the fire.

Video footage and photos taken at the scene show roads sealed off and emergency services in attendance.

Other images on Twitter showed thick smoke caused by the blaze could be seen from some distance.

Fire crews remain at the scene dampening down.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
