A march is due to be held in memory of Sukhjinder Singh, who was stabbed to death in Southall.

Friends and family of the 33-year-old will gather to pay their respects on Sunday (August 7) from 5pm in Viking Road, Southall, close to where he was found stabbed.

Harry Chahal, who described himself as a close friend of Mr Singh, said the vigil was being held primarily to remember the popular construction worker and show the community's support for his family.

But he said it was also being staged to call for an end to the recent violence which has resulted in a spate of stabbings.

Mr Singh, who was known to many as Gurinder, or Guri, had lived in Southall for around 15 years after leaving his native India, Mr Chahal told getwestlondon .

He worked in the construction industry and was well known in the Sikh community, regularly attending the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, in Havelock Road, Southall.

'A really good, down to earth guy'

"He was a really good guy, a very down to earth person. He loved to play cricket on the recreation ground in Old Southall," said Mr Chahal.

"We're expecting lots of people to join the march to pay their respects because he was such a popular guy.

"We also want to raise awareness of all the recent stabbings and encourage people to stop carrying knives, because the violence is getting out of hand."
