Road closed for six hours and traffic remains slow

Three lanes of the A40 eastbound at Marble Arch, at the junction of Park Lane have been closed for around six hours.

Traffic remains slow on approach with southbound Edgware Road from St John’s Wood.

Northbound Park Lane is slow from Hyde Park Corner.

Diverted traffic is slow moving eastbound on Seymour Street, and westbound on Wigmore Street, on approach to Orchard Street.

Police launch public appeal for witnesses

Detectives from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit (SCIU) are investigating the crash.

DC Amanda Hawke, from the SCIU, said:

“We really need to understand more about what happened and hear from anyone who saw this collision, anyone with footage, particularly dashcam should contact our incident room number.”

Any witnesses, anyone with information or in possession of footage should contact the SCIU on 0208 543 5157.

A Transport for London alert said:

“The road is closed southbound due to a collision. Traffic is being diverted eastbound onto Oxford Street.”

Cyclist was treated on the scene before being rushed to hospital

The cyclist was rushed to hospital by paramedics after he was treated on the scene this morning.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called at 10:50am to reports of a road traffic collision on Oxford Street.

“We sent multiple resources to the scene, including paramedics in cars, an ambulance crew and an advanced paramedic. London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched.

“We treated a man at the scene for a leg injury and took him as a priority to a major trauma centre in central London.”

A car and a lorry collided - which then struck a cyclist, according to police.

The male cyclist suffered a serious leg injury as a result and an emergency helicopter attended the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

“Police are dealing with a road traffic collision in Marble Arch.

“Officers were called at 10.50am on Friday (August 25) to reports of a collision at Marble Arch, outside the train station.

“A car was reported to have been in collision with a HGV lorry which then struck a cyclist.

“The male cyclist suffered a serious leg injury as a result.

“London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service have attended the scene.

“Road closures are in place while emergency services deal.

“Enquiries continue.”
