A man who died after being hit by a police van was from Brentford , it has been revealed.

The 35-year-old was struck by the van, which was responding to an emergency call , in London Road, Isleworth , on Tuesday (December 8) night.

The man, who has yet to be formally named, was taken to a west London hospital, where he died the next day .

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) confirmed yesterday it is investigating the incident, which happened outside a row of shops near the junction with Thornbury Road at around 10.55pm.

The watchdog said it had launched an independent investigation on Thursday after receiving a mandatory referral from the Metropolitan Police Service.
