A man has been jailed after climbing a woman's drainpipe in Brent intending to rape her.

Danilo Silva, 33, of Jansons Road in Harringey, was given a six-year sentence at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday for attempted rape and indecent assault.

On the morning of July 5, 2014, Silva climbed a drainpipe to get into a first floor window at the victim's home in Brent.

He then crept into her living room while she was asleep on her sofa where Silva tried to rape her before he ran away.

The woman was able to identify Silva, however, and he was arrested the following day.

Detectives from the Met Police's Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command launched an investigation and, with the assistance of forensics, began a lengthy examination of the scene.

A large amount of evidence was gathered from inside and outside the address, linking Silva to the property.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Steve Grainger, said: "Silva made a concerted effort to enter an address with the sole intent of committing a serious sexual assault.

"I would like to praise the victim for having the confidence and courage to report her ordeal to police. Her evidence was supported by witnesses who should also be praised.

"I hope today's sentencing gives them some sort of closure and also displays the professionalism and commitment of officers within the Met to investigate allegations of sexual crime to a satisfactory conclusion."
