A rapist jailed nearly 30 years ago for a series of sex attacks has been sentenced after he admitted to two more offences in Harrow .

Michael Chandler, 53, of no fixed address, was sentenced to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of five years on Monday (January 16).

He had pleaded guilty on Friday (January 13) to one count of rape committed in Harrow on March 27, 1986 .

Previously, he had also pleaded guilty in 2014 to a second count of rape and false imprisonment in relation to a rape committed in Harrow on March 1, 1986.

Between 1985 and 1987, he carried out a series of vicious attacks on young women across north-west London.

A number of offences against ten separate victims were investigated with nine victims put before the court.

Chandler was convicted at the Old Bailey on March 18, 1988 for a number of offences, significantly six counts of rape, although he was acquitted in relation to offences against three victims.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of 14 years, and has remained in custody since.
