A man who assaulted three police officers, ordering his dog to attack them, has been jailed for two months.

Calvin Folks, 53, of Harlesden Road, Harlesden, was sentenced at Hendon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (June 24) after being found guilty of three counts of assault on police following a trial at Willesden Magistrates' Court on May 27, police said.

He was also found guilty of being a person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, a Met Police spokesman added.

On January 25, officers attended a flat in Harlesden Road to arrest Calvin Folks on suspicion of assault. Folks refused to leave the flat, becoming abusive and violent, kicking out and punching officers, police said.

During the assault, Folks ordered his dog - believed to be a pit bull - to attack the officers, polcie said, with the dog attempting to jump up and bite.

Thankfully, police were able to push the dangerous dog away. The force's dog unit attended the incident and seized the pit bull, a banned breed of dog in the UK.

Folks was arrested and charged on January 26.

Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Constable Pankaj Patel said: "This incident serves to highlight the dangers that officers face every time they put on their uniform.

"They put themselves in harm's way in order to protect the communities we serve.

"Assaulting an officer is unacceptable and we will actively target offenders on the borough and will arrest and bring to justice those intent on breaking the law in Brent."
