A man was taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation after he escaped a house fire in Ealing.

The rear bedroom on the first floor of a property in Greenford had set alight and was "completely damaged" by fire.

Twenty firefighters and four fire engines were called to the blaze at a terraced house in Drew Gardens, on Monday (June 26) morning.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: "Part of the ground floor of the property was also damaged in the blaze.

"One man left the property before the arrival of the Brigade and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, by firefighters and London Ambulance Service crews, before being taken to hospital."

Firefighters were called to the scene at 8.25am and took nearly an hour and a half to contain the blaze.

The fire was declared under control at 9.40am after fire crews from Wembley , Northolt and Park Royal fire stations attended the scene.
