A 46-year-old man who was found dead in a Travelodge in Hounslow died from blood loss after he was found with cuts on his wrist and foot a coroner ruled on Tuesday (June 21).

Simon Lucas, of no fixed abode, died on March 14 2015 after being found unresponsive in the hotel in Bath Road by emergency services.

Assistant manager at the hotel, Shuja Rahman, alerted paramedics after he tried to enter the room but found the door blocked.

At the inquest into Mr Lucas' death, held at West London Coroner's Court in Fulham on Tuesday, coroner Chinyere Inyama recorded an open verdict.

Mr Inyama said: “I'm going to record an open verdict because I have no evidence about state of mind”

“A high concentration of paracetamol was found. He had taken a substantial overdose of that drug at the time.

“I don't have enough evidence of the taking of the paracetamol. Even though its a high level, he wasn't at the fatal level.”

The cause of death was recorded as hypovolaemia – a decrease in the volume of blood circulating round the body.
