A man was lucky to escape a flat fire in Wembley on Monday (August 10).

London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called at 8.07pm to a flat in Ealing Road, with 21 firefighters and officers attending.

One man left the flat before the arrival of firefighters and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service, an LFB spokesman said.

Most of the flat was reportedly damaged by the blaze.

Firefighters from Wembley and Northolt fire stations tackled the fire, which was brought under control at 9.17pm.

Crew manager Andy Cuthbert, who was at the scene, said: “When we arrived the fire was already well developed and had blown the windows and doors out.

“Crews wearing breathing apparatus got the fire under control very quickly but this just goes to show how fast fires can spread.

“If there is a fire in your home, get out and call 999 as soon as possible.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
