Two cats were plucked to safety as a man fled after fire broke out in a block of apartments in Fulham.

It happened this morning (May 18) in Waterford Road, on the sixth floor of a 12 storey building.

One man escaped but firefighters had to rescue two cats from the apartment, which was partly damaged by the flames.

Four fire engines and 20 firefighters from Fulham, Chelsea, Kensington and Battersea fire stations were at the scene. They arrived just after 10am and had the fire under control by 10.50am.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown but is under investigation.

This week London Fire Brigade called on the government to make it easier for the public to find out if white appliances had been recalled by manufacturers after a fire at a beauty parlour ion Harrow.
