A man escaped a raging fire which killed a dog and gutted a house in Hounslow.

Sadly, the London Fire Brigade reported on Twitter on Friday (October 9) "Man escapes but dog sadly dies at serious #Hounslow house blaze."

The fire ripped through most of the ground floor and half of the first floor of a semi-detached house in Wellington Road South on Wednesday (October 7).

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters tackled the blaze after London Fire Brigade (LFB) received a call at around 5:20pm on Wednesday (October 7) evening.

Fire crews from Feltham and Heston fire stations were able to get the blaze under control just before 7pm.

An LFB spokeswoman said: "The house was severely damaged by fire.

"A man left the property before the brigade arrived.

"We attended a semi-detached house of two floors. 80% of the ground floor is alight and 50% of the first floor is alight.

"The cause of the fire is not known at this time."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that local police are assisting with road closures in the area and London Ambulance Service (LAS) are also present.

He said: "LAS are at the scene with the fire brigade, making sure everyone was taken out of the premises."

As of 6:30pm, there was no one left inside the property and no animals inside and firefighters were still at the scene.

Wellington Road South is closed in both directions at A315 Staines Road, with route H28 buses subject to diversion and delays.

Firefighters were still at scene at 7pm.
