A male pedestrian has died after he was hit by a van in Regent Street, Westminster .

The man, believed to be in his late forties, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Oxford Circus on Wednesday (Aug) 3 evening.

The Metropolitan Police were called to Regent Street at the junction with Hanover Street at 8.10pm, following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a van.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service paramedics and London's Air Ambulance doctor, and found a man suffering from life threatening injuries.

Sadly, he died at 8.48pm.

His next of kin are due to be informed, and a formal identification and post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

An investigation is being led by detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information following the fatal road traffic collision.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have been witness to the moments leading up to the accident , or the crash itself.

The driver of the van involved in the crash stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

No arrests have been made.
