A man has been charged with criminal damage and trespass on a protected site after police were called to reports of a man on the roof at the Palace of Westminster on Saturday (March 7).

Emergency services, including police negotiators, were called to the scene after a man was seen on the top of the building at 9.15pm.

Braydon Anderson, 23, from Northampton, was arrested around eight hours later and taken to a police station. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday (March 9).

The roof has previously been targeted by campaign groups, including those opposed to a third runway at Heathrow and by Greenpeace.

However, on this occasion it was not immediately clear if the man was protesting.
