Police have charged a 66-year-old suspect with the attempted murder of four women, after they were stabbed at a Sainsbury's in Hampton.

Ethem Aydin Orhon, of Deacons Walk, Hampton, appeared in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court, on Saturday, (May 21), charged with four counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.

He was remanded in custody to next appear at Kingston Crown Court on June 17.

The incidents took place on Friday (May 20) in Hampton, Richmond-upon-Thames ,where four women were injured.

The alarm was raised to police 10.35am, following reports of a man in possession of a knife at The Avenue in Hampton, Richmond-upon-Thames.

Officers attended the Sainsbury's supermarket, where they saw a man who was holding a knife and chasing people, disarmed him and arrested him.

The four women, aged 53, 62, 67 and 71, are still in hospital, but are all now described as stable.

An investigation was launched by detectives from Richmond -Upon-Thames borough, after it was established that the man was on bail for another offence at the time of the alleged attack.

He was arrested in another borough on Thursday (May 19) on suspicion of being in possession of a knife and assaulting a police constable, then later charged and bailed from police custody on Friday (May 20) morning.
