A persistent Uxbridge offender has been banned from drinking in public for three years, police have said.

Gary Vines, 29, of Uxbridge, was handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after repeatedly committing crime and causing antisocial behaviour (ASB), according to a Met Police statement.

Over the last two years, police said, Vines had been involved in a number of incidents within Uxbridge and Ruislip because of his addiction to alcohol. These included stealing from cars, shoplifting, public order offences, being drunk in the street, and assaulting a shop keeper.

Vines would regularly become aggressive towards store staff and security as well as the police when detained following his shoplifting offences, officers said.

He was slapped with the CBO at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on July 28, which now means he is banned from consuming alcohol in a public place for the next three years.

Police Sergeant Nick Davies, from Hillingdon Licensing, Antisocial Behaviour and Gangs Unit, said: "Vines' unacceptable behaviour caused a number of people alarm and distress. Even after repeated warnings, he continued to get drunk, steal and be abusive towards staff.

"I hope this CBO makes him realise the distress he has caused and that he now gets support he needs to deal with his alcohol problems."

Vines now has a CBO with the following conditions, all of which will last for three years.

He must not:

1. Consume alcohol in any public place in England and Wales unless in a licensed premises.

2. Have in his possession or inside a vehicle in England and Wales any form of opened alcoholic vessel (bottle/can/cup) unless in a licensed premises.

3. Enter or attempt to enter Ruislip High Street and Uxbridge High Street, unless attending the job centre or waiting for public transport, for example at a bus stop.
