A man arrested in Whitehall on Thursday (April 27) under the Terrorism Act remains in custody at a south London police station.

Metropolitan Police said a 27-year-old man was arrested in Whitehall at 2.22pm in Parliament Street, near the junction with Parliament Square, by armed officers.

He was arrested on suspicion of an offensive weapon and on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

Officers said knives were recovered.

The man is being detained under the Terrorism Act and remains in custody at a south London police station.

Police added a warrant of further detention was granted on Wednesday (May 3) at Westminster Magistrates Court allowing the man to be detained until May 11.
