A man has appeared in court accused of urinating on the Cenotaph.

It allegedly happened on Saturday (August 29) night, after officers were called to the Whitehall war memorial amid reports a man was ripping off poppy wreaths and desecrating the monument.

Mareqs Fiser, of no fixed address, was charged with an offence under the Public Order Act and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday (August 31), police said.

The 24-year-old will return to the same court on September 11 after the case was adjourned.

The Cenotaph is a Grade I listed structure and is Britain’s principal national war memorial, with the Prime Minister and Queen laying wreaths at the memorial each Remembrance Sunday.
