A man has appeared in court charged with assaulting a shopkeeper in Uxbridge, following a police appeal.

John Donovan from Ruislip appeared in court on June 9 after being charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) by police the same day.

The unnamed shopkeeper, aged 56, suffered head and facial injuries during the alleged attack outside a parade of shops in Moorfield Road, Cowley , last Monday (June 6).

Donovan, 32, appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court last week after being charged with the attack.

He is set to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on July 7 to answer to the charge of causing GBH.

Police were called to reports of an assault shortly after 8.15pm, and the shopkeeper was taken to a west London hospital by London Ambulance Service for treatment for serious head and facial injuries.

The attack left a parade of shops in Cowley cordoned off by police , and the shopkeeper remained in hospital more than a week on from the incident.

The incident is the latest one to shock Cowley residents, following an explosion just streets away when cars burst into flames during the early hours of June 2 .
