A pensioner died has died after a fire started in the vehicle he was in at Greenford Park Cemetery car park.

The 80-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene on Wednesday
(April 22) despite the efforts of emergency services. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Witnesses saw the vehicle, a silver BMW, drive into the car park off Windmill Lane at around 2.20pm. Shortly after parking, a fire started.

Firefighters put out the fire but the male occupant could not be saved.

Police believe they know the identity of the man and next of kin have been informed. He has yet to be formally identified.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

While the death is not believed to be suspicious, officers from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating the circumstances. These enquiries are ongoing.
