Transport for London (TfL) announced on Monday the three boroughs which have successfully secured funding through the Mini Hollands programme.

They are Enfield, Kingston and Waltham Forest and will all receive £30million each to encourage and promote cycling in those boroughs over the coming years. Ealing, Richmond, Bexley and Merton were commended for ‘exceptional proposals’ and will split £10 million from the £100 million pot which is allocated to mini Hollands over the next decade.

Last year TfL invited outer London boroughs to bid for funds in a competitive process.

Green Party London Assembly Member Darren Johnson welcomes the investment, but points out that it means all other London boroughs will receive no funding under the scheme for at least 10 years.

Mr Johnson said: "This is exciting news for around a sixth of the outer London boroughs, but will leave cyclists and those wanting to cycle disappointed in the unlucky boroughs. The Mayor should be harnessing the huge enthusiasm that exists for cycling in outer London and working with all local authorities to ensure they are able to formulate exciting, inclusive proposals to get Londoners on their bikes.”

He added: “These mini-Hollands should be a test bed for ideas to make cycling safe and enjoyable, but there is no money and no plan to roll this idea out throughout Outer London. The Mayor needs to increase the cycling budget in TfL’s 10 year plan, so that everyone can participate in safe cycling as soon as possible.”
