A young woman was hit by a car and thrown into the air onto a parked vehicle before landing on the pavement in a horrific crash.

Five days after the collision in Maida Vale, a 24-year-old female pedestrian remains in hospital with life-changing injuries, police said.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the road traffic accident which happened on Elgin Avenue on Monday (April 17).

The Metropolitan Police said they were called at around 6.45pm to reports of a collision involving a car, believed to be a silver Honda Jazz, and a pedestrian.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a woman seriously injured and being treated by the London Ambulance Service.

She was taken to a central London hospital where she remains receiving treatment.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He has been bailed until a date in mid-May pending further enquiries.
