A man and a woman had a lucky escape after an Eastcote florist was 'gutted' by flames.

21 firefighters tackled the blaze at World of Flowers florist, on Field End Road, in the early hours of Friday, February 5.

The whole of the shop was badly damaged by the fire and there was smoke damage to the flat above.

A man and a woman escaped unhurt from the flat above before fire crews arrived.

Another man and woman, along with two children from a nearby flat, also fled their home without injury.

Four fire engines were on the scene after London Fire Brigade (LFB) were called at 12.05am.

Gary Simkins, Ruislip Watch Manager, said: “The residents above the shop were alerted to the blaze by the shop front being blown out.

"Thankfully they evacuated safely without injury. Firefighters worked hard to contain the fire to the shop, limiting the damage to the flat above.

"The people did exactly the right thing which helped them avoid injury.

"If smoke enters your flat, try and get out, stay out and call 999.”

Firefighters from Harrow , Ruislip and Hillingdon fire stations attended the scene, and spent an hour and 20 minutes tackling the blaze and getting the fire under control.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
