A car went up in flames following a collision near to the entrance of Thorpe Park .

A group inside the vehicles made a lucky escape following the incident on Saturday September 23.

The collision involved two vehicles and a fire engine from Egham fire station was called to the scene at 5.45pm.

The incident occurred where Chertsey Lane changes to Staines Road at the junction of Norlands Lane.

Folllowing the collision, an off-duty ambulance staff member helped to remove four people from one car and three people from the other, according to a firefighter at the scene.

After the occupants had left both vehicles, one of the cars caught alight, as can be seen in dramatic footage from the scene.

Egham Fire Station Watch Commander Hughes said: "Once we reached the scene it took about five minutes to put the fire out."

Watch Commander Hughes also confirmed South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics treated those at the scene.

Ian Giddings witnessed emergency services racing to the scene of the accident.

“We had just come off the M25 towards Thorpe Park and were overtaken by police and ambulance," he told Get Surrey .

"As we got to the entrance of Thorpe Park the road was stacked up and there was big black smoke coming up from somewhere and more emergency vehicles.

“Traffic in the other direction was telling other road users that the road was closed and to turn around.”

Merryn Passey, another eyewitness, said: “We saw a car in flames after having a collision.

“There’s all three services there and they are now diverting all traffic down through Thorpe.”
