Sebastian Coe will lead a field of Olympic athletes at the Vitality Westminster Mile this month.

The man who set three world records over the one-mile distance during his incredible track career is returning to racing action in the Olympians Mile, open to athletes in any sport who have represented Great Britain in a Summer or Winter Olympic Games .

It is part of the Westminster run which take place on May 28 and takes in some of the capital’s most famous sights.

More than 100 Olympians will join the former Conservative MP on the start line on The Mall, including ice dancing legend Jayne Torvill, rower Greg Searle and five-time Olympian Jo Pavey.

To mark the announcement Lord Coe, as he is now known, visited Hallfield School in Westminster on Wednesday (May 3), where pupils will be participating in the Vitality Westminster Mile, before joining them in a run.

The school, in Porchester Gardens, takes part in The Daily Mile initiative, which sees pupils go outside every school day, whatever the weather, to run, jog and walk for 15 minutes.

Seb Coe, who won Olympic gold over 1,500m in the 1980 and 1984 games before playing a key role in securing and planning the London 2012 games, joined the kids for their daily run, and said: “It’s fantastic to see these children so excited about taking part in the Vitality Westminster Mile.

“The London 2012 Olympic Games aimed to inspire a generation and this event, created in 2013 as an Olympic legacy event, is doing just that.”

The Vitality Westminster Mile features 30 races for all ages and abilities.

It begins on The Mall and takes in Horse Guards Parade and Birdcage Walk before finishing in front of Buckingham Palace.

Entry is £8 for adults, £6 for juniors (£1 reduction for Westminster residents) and free for children aged 11 and under.

There will be a host of free family-friendly activities all day long in Green Park at the Vitality Wellness Festival too.

Entries close at 5pm today (Monday May 8).
