Motorists in the Hammersmith and Fulham can join London’s first electric car club following its launch on Monday (June 12).

The scheme will enable drivers able to pick up zero exhaust emissions Bluecity cars from any local charging point in the borough.

The project was launched in Hammersmith as part of the council’s first eco fair.

To mark the event the administration is offering residents that sign up to Bluecity one year’s membership and 20 hours of driving for free.

Bluecity users can pick up a car from any local charging point, with a network of 150 on-street electric vehicle charging points available by the end of this summer.

These can also be picked up and dropped off at other charging points outside of the borough.

The eco fair will showcase the methods being used by the council to make the borough the greenest in the country.

Planting around the base of trees , the use of chemical-free weedkillers , and a drive improve air quality are just some of the projects that have been employed to help realise this aim.

The eco fair and Bluecity launch is taking place between 11am and 2pm at Lyric Square.

The voucher entitling drivers with a year’s free membership (usually £5 per month) and 20 hours of driving (usually 17p per minute – minimum charge of £3.40) can be picked up at the eco fair.

It can also be subscribed to online using the code EARLYBIRD.
