Londoners this morning (Sunday, January 17) awoke to a sprinkling of snow, as the Met Office warned of potentially treacherous conditions on the road.

Much of the capital was covered in a fine dusting of the white stuff, but it is not expected to stick around long enough for those enjoying a Sunday lie-in to appreciate.

The Met Office, which issued a yellow warning of severe weather, said the snow was unlikely to last long and icy stretches could develop on untreated surfaces, including footpaths and cycle routes.

The severe weather warning was in place until 10am on Sunday.

It advised people to expect travel disruption and difficult driving conditions.

Transport for London (TfL) warned passengers at 9am of severe delays on the Piccadilly line between Uxbridge and Acton Town, and minor delays on rest due to ice on the track in the Sudbury area and a shortage of train operators.

While the snowfall in London was limited to say the least, some people did manage to make the most of it.

Girish Kamath tweeted a photo of a mini-snowman made by his children in Hounslow.

No more snow is expected in London over the next four days, according to the Met Office.
