Passengers were warned on Sunday (September 10) there were no Great Western Railway services to and from London Paddington.

Overrunning engineering works caused severe disruption to the line which opened at around 10am.

National Rail warned disruption could continue until 11.30am, with trains either delayed by up to an hour, cancelled or revised.

Great Western Railway (GWR) customers can use Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, London Midland, London Underground, South Western Railway and Virgin Trains "via any reasonable route" instead.

Network Rail has tweeted to apologise and said engineers are working to fix the problem.

It wrote: "Really sorry for the disruption. Engineers are working as fast as possible to resolve the problem."

But train-user Peter Redman, who hoped to catch a 9.35am train, said: "So you don't know when your own lines will be open??? What a farce."

Passengers were also warned that there were no trains between Maidenhead and Marlow and Twyford and Henly-on-Thames until 10am.
