The Trust which runs Ealing Hospital and Harrow's St Mark's Hospital has had its “commitment” to research and teaching recognised after being awarded University Hospital status.
London North West Healthcare NHS Trust, which also runs Northwick Park and Central Middlesex hospitals, has been granted membership of the Association of UK University Hospitals (AUKUH).
As a member of the leadership body representing British University Hospitals, the Trust will now add 'University' to its title due to its “strong involvement in research” and undergraduate teaching.
Chief Executive of the Trust, which also runs Ealing's Clayponds Rehabilitation Hospital and Willesden Community Rehabilitation Hospital, said this recognises the “important role” they play.
Jacqueline Docherty DBE said: “Membership of the AUKUH and recognition as a University Hospital by our peers formally acknowledges the important role that we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of healthcare innovation to the public.
“A strong, positive signal of this kind will help us considerably in our efforts to strengthen relationships with partners, to build trust within the communities we serve and recognise the impact of our outstanding clinical workforce within London, nationally and beyond.”

London North West Healthcare works in partnership with Imperial College London to promote discovery and adoption of emerging innovations and best practices in healthcare.
Professor David Taube, Visiting Professor in Imperial's Department of Medicine, was nominated by the College as the non-executive director on the Trust's board.
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial, professor Gavin Screaton, said: “London North West Healthcare NHS Trust is an active and valued partner for the College.
“I am pleased to see the Trust's commitment to embedding evidence-led teaching and innovation at the core of its activities has been recognised through this membership.”
Currently, there are 47 member Trusts within the AUKUH and their chief executives, alongside senior staff such as medical directors, meet through the Association to take the lead on national issues.
