West Londoners are gearing up for the hottest day of the year today (May 8) with temperatures in the capital set to hit 26C.

The weather will rival that of the Mediterranean as the heatwave being enjoyed in the city continues.

London’s parks are set to be jammed with sun-worshippers soaking up the rays, and with few clouds expected in the skies, it will also make ideal pub garden or barbecue weather.

Sara Thornton, from the Met Office, said: “We are looking at the warmest weather of the year so far this weekend.”

The warm weather will remain at the beginning of the week, though temperatures will drop from today’s high.

However, make sure to swap the Factor 50 and ice cream with an umbrella on May 10, with rain predicted for large chunks of the day.
