A pedestrian has been taken to hospital and a further 13 people have been injured following a bus crash.

Police were called to the scene at 11.51am on Thursday November 17 to reports that a bus had been in collision with a female pedestrian.

The pedestrian, believed to be in her 30s has been taken to a central London hospital, with minor injuries.

The collision happened on Ladbroke Gove near the junction with Canal Way in Kensington .

What happened in Ladbroke Grove today...

A woman was trapped under a No 52 double-decker bus this morning on Ladbroke Grove, at the junction with Canal Way. Miraculously, she suffered minor injuries only, despite one witness saying he was sure the impact had killed her.

The bus driver and 12 passengers were also treated for injuries. Police said three are being treated for serious head, leg and arm injuries.

Nearby roads were closed while emergency services attended the scene Firefighters lifted the vehicle to free the woman, and the stricken bus was removed from the scene.

'One woman was trapped under the bus'

A spokesperson from London Fire Brigade confirm one woman was trapped under the bus:

“We were called at 11:52am. It was a bus in collision with a wall.

There was one woman who was trapped under the bus, she was released and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

We had two fire engines there and one fire rescue unit”

Tactical Commander for the Ladbroke Grove bus collision, Paul Cook, said:

“We treated 14 patients at the scene and took 13 to hospital. Ten had minor injuries and three had more serious head, leg and arm injuries.

“Eight patients were taken to St Mary’s, three patients were taken to Chelsea and Westminster and two patients with minor injuries were taken to St Thomas’.

Witness: 'I can't believe she survived'

Matt was lost for words when told police had said the pedestrian suffered minor injuries only. He said: “From the way the bus hit her and sent her back I thought she would’ve died on impact. You’d have to assume that... it was a double-decker bus. It’s great news and I’m just amazed.”

Bus lifted to rescue pedestrian

Matt said police and other emergency services were soon at the scene and did an amazing job. Firefighters used equipment to lift the bus and free the trapped woman. He said he was amazed to see her talking to people

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said:

“We were called at 11.51am today to reports of a road traffic collision at Ladbroke Grove, W10

“We sent multiple resources to the scene, including four ambulance crews, a single responder in a car, an incident response officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance .The first of our medics arrived at the scene in under six minutes.

“I thought ‘Oh My God’. The force it hit her, you would’ve thought she had no chance of surviving. “The bus’s front window shattered and all the passengers flew forward. It all happened in slow motion and it was absolute carnage.

Witness: 'I saw bus head straight to the woman'

Matt Kyprianou saw the whole incident happened. He is the club manager at Anytime Fitness on Ladbroke Grove. He heard the sound of a car crash and said: “I saw the bus go on the other side of the road. It had clipped a white Audi and I saw it head straight to a woman. It went ‘bang’ straight into her.”

Police were called at 11:51hrs on Thursday, 17 November, to Ladbroke Gove near the junction with Canal Way, W10.

London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade also attended.

It was reported that a bus had been in collision with a female pedestrian, believed to be aged in her 30s. She has been taken to a central London hospital, with minor injuries.

Police are aware of a further 13 people - the bus driver and 12 bus passengers - who sustained injuries. Nobody is thought to be in a life-threatening or life-changing condition. We await confirmation of how many people have been taken to hospital.

Road closures are in place while emergency services deal with the incident.

There has been no arrest at this stage.

'Bus swerved to avoid a car'

Stephen Jacobs is a controller at Chequers minicabs, close to the crash in Canal Way.

He told getwestlondon:

“I was told a by a member of staff from Sainbury’s that a bus swerved to avoid a car.

It mounted the kerb and injured a lady and a child. Police have had that part of the road closed off ever since.”

“Just before midday today, a route 52 double deck bus, operated by Metroline, was involved in a collision with a pedestrian at the junction of Ladbroke Grove and Canal Way, W10. Emergency services attended the scene. There will be a full investigation into the incident.”
